The Paddy Power Champion Hurdle typically features horses that ran in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. The upcoming race will be no different with Honeysuckle looking to follow up her Prestbury Park triumph and the likes of Epatante, Sharjah, Goshen and Aspire Tower among the other seven entries.
Faugheen – ridden by our very own Ruby Walsh – was the most recent horse to do the double way back in 2015, while the last renewal of this race in 2019 was won by the popular Buveur D’Air.
It’s the feature race on the fourth and penultimate day of the 2021 Punchestown Festival and a cool €147,500 is up for the grabs for connections of the winning horse – more than enough for a round of Guinnesses to celebrate.
Ruby Walsh: “Cheltenham Champion Hurdle winner HONEYSUCKLE is the star attraction and I fancy her to follow up ahead of the other mare and 2019 Cheltenham Champion Hurdle winner, Epatante.”
Mick Fitzgerald: “SHARJAH has the ground conditions absolutely perfect for him and it could be his opportunity at a nice price to beat her – or at least finish second.”
Paddy Power: “HONEYSUCKLE is simply just too good. Goshen, Aspire Tower and Jason The Militant will make it a proper gallop which plays into her hands. Her jumping at Cheltenham was poetry in motion, more of the same please!”
