Henry de Bromhead noticed Minella Indo had a bruised foot on Monday and decided against sending the Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning superstar to Punchestown for his intended season finale.
“It’s a very minor thing, but it’s the right thing to do and we thought we’d let everybody know sooner rather than later,” said De Bromhead.
“He just didn’t seem right when we were looking at him and when we had a look he’s bruised the sole of his foot. We’ll call it a day now, he’s had a great season.”
Minella Indo led home stablemate A Plus Tard to complete an unprecedented Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and Gold Cup treble for De Bromhead.

Al Boum Photo had been bidding to make it a hat-trick of Gold Cup wins at the Cheltenham Festival but had to settle for third place.
The nine-year-old has assumed favouritism for the Punchestown Gold Cup in Minella Indo’s absence ahead of Clan Des Obeaux. Paul Nicholls opted to supplement the dual King George VI Chase winner at a cost of €25,000 instead of taking up an entry in the Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Sandown Park last Saturday.
Clan Des Obeaux responded brilliantly to first-time cheekpieces to win the Betway Bowl at this month’s Aintree Festival by 26l from Clondaw Castle.
Kemboy got the better of Al Boum Photo to win the Punchestown Gold Cup in 2019 and is also prominent in the betting at 4/1.
