English Classics 2021: 3 Paddy Power Specials including 10/1 Aidan O’Brien punt

Paddy Power traders have run the rule over the big races of the flat season.

*Odds quoted on the widget are Future Racing/Antepost prices which means that if your selection does not run in the race for whatever reason, you will lose your stake under traditional antepost rules

Excitement is building as the flat racing season steps up a gear – and Paddy’s had his traders hard at work to knock up some specials for the five English Classic Races.

First out of the stalls is the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 1 before the fillies-only 1000 Guineas the following day. We head to Surrey in early June for the Epsom Classics – the Derby and the Oaks. The long-distance test of the St Leger Stakes on September 11 offers the last chance for a Classics success in 2021.

The first of Paddy’s specials focuses on one of Aidan O’Brien’s fantastic fillies.

Santa Barbara is the antepost favourite for the 1000 Guineas after romping to victory at the Curragh in her sole appearance as a two-year-old last season. We’re offering 9/2 that she’ll win the 1000 Guineas and the Epsom Oaks. You could live the American dream if she comes up trumps.

The 1000 Guineas and Oaks double was completed by the O’Brien-trained Love last year – and she was the first horse to win two Classic Races since Minding in 2016.

O’Brien has proved himself the master trainer and boasts an incredible record in the Classics in recent years.

2000 Guineas? He’s won five of the last 10. 1000 Guineas? Another five of the last 10 winners. The Oaks? You’ll be shocked to know it’s another five out of 10. He’s gone one better in the Derby with six winners since 2011.

Will it be another stellar year for the 51-year-old? He’s got a string of colts prominent in the antepost betting for the 2000 Guineas and the Derby – and Paddy Power traders have priced the chance of four Classic victories at 6/1. Woof!

The longer distance test of the St Leger has been the most challenging for O’Brien with just three winners in the last 10 years. You know his team are good when that’s the most disappointing stat…

And if you think the Ballydoyle Stables bigwig has a generation of three-year-olds capable of making it a clean sweep then we’ve got you covered.
