17:30 Dundalk – Crest Of A Wave

CREST OF A WAVE seemed to win pretty snuggly two starts back and surprisingly was not given too much of a hike in the ratings, going up just the 4lbs. Admittedly, that came from a favourable stall position and from Stall 15 right on the outside last time, she just could never get competitive in that race.

Reunited with the winning pilot from two starts ago, Niall McCullagh, let’s hope for a slice of luck as he is faced with a tricky starting position. However, she doesn’t look anywhere near her ceiling rating at the moment.

18:15 Newcastle – Dazzling Des

DAZZLING DES was definitely value for a good bit more than the winning margin of only a neck last time, as he was confidently handled and was produced perfectly inside the final furlong. He’s only been handed a 3lbs rise, whereas the second has also been handed an extra 2lbs which seems surprising. He is also handily positioned towards the favoured stand side part of the trace’s k. He’s an improving four-year-old sprinter who can continue up the ladder.

18:45 Newcastle – Jean Baptiste

This young trainer George Boughey is making a serious name for himself in the competitive ranks of Newmarket and one of his specialities are cast-offs from other stables. JEAN BAPTISTE wasn’t cheap at 65,000 guineas from the horses-in-training sale, but he could well prove a decent handicapper in the making. His final start at Chelmsford can be upgraded significantly with the front two pulling a very long way clear of the third, Jamie Spencer takes the ride and that’s an added bonus.

19:00 Dundalk – Sense Of Worth

SENSE OF WORTH took a massive step forward last time on handicap debut and has taken just a nudge up in the handicap for only his fifth lifetime start. This course and distance clearly suits and he’s possibly not going to be near the price he was last time.

We have an on-song horse on our side, with a jockey in Conor McGovern who has already matched last year’s tally of successes in only the early part of this campaign. The Andrew Oliver yard is in-form and it was also encouraging to see three horses hitting the board from only five runners.

20:00 Dundalk – Designer Cailin

DESIGNER CAILIN was an eye-catcher two starts back when a never-nearer over the minimum trip of 5 furlongs here. However, She didn’t find the required improvement last time on handicap debut, but she was ridden completely different on that occasion and forced the issue.

The pocket rocket Wayne Lordan takes over in the saddle and expect him to be ridden a touch more patiently. Add to that, he has an 8lbs turnaround for just over 4 lengths to make up with the favourite Betrayed and you’d be right to believe she’s got every chance.

20:15 Newcastle – Harrogate

HARROGATE has tumbled down the handicap by fully 22lbs since his peak rating and has only had the one try for this excellent that sprint academy that is the Paul Midgley, showing blistering speed off a lay-off and getting very tired late in the day.

He’s going to take a massive step forward from that return to action. I’m not sure if they’re going to ride him as aggressively on this occasion, but he so well handicapped he may just point and shoot. He could well be tough to catch here.
