A local man claiming to have inside information on the Queen Mother Champion Chase at 3:05pm today is refusing to reveal the identity of his source.
Joe McMelter shared his tip with members of a WhatsApp group normally used for organising nights out or exchanging pornographic videos.
In a text to the group, the 29-year-old wrote: “Obviously you didn’t get this from me but my source tells me Greaneteen is a sure thing at 66-1.
“I’ll be sticking £5 on it. That’s how confident I am.”
However, given Joe’s dubious track record during previous festivals, his mates are justifiably sceptical.
“Who’s this source then mate?” asked Joe’s friend Dave, shortly before setting up another group which Joe wasn’t added to, entitled ‘Joe’s full of shit’.
“I don’t want to get my source in trouble but let’s just say his sister’s husband’s brother’s best mate’s son goes to the same school as the trainer’s daughter’s best mate’s cousin. So trust me, the tip is a sure thing,” replied Joe.
“All I ask is that you keep it just between the 42 of us. I don’t wanna get him in any shit,” he added.
However, Joe’s pleas fell upon deaf ears as screen grabs of the conversation were distributed to countless other WhatsApp groups of which the lads were members.
“Got this tip from a very reliable source,” wrote Dave, now claiming the tip as his own.
Meanwhile, with the festival taking place behind closed doors due to the ongoing pandemic, Joe has vowed to recreate the joy of Cheltenham at home by getting pissed and urinating in his back garden.
“I made my own race card which has all the info I need about the jockeys and horses. It can also be rolled up into a makeshift funnel I can use to piss in the garden if the missus is using the toilet,” he revealed.
