The countdown to Cheltenham 2021 continues and day three of the Festival features the third instalment of this season’s blockbuster battle between Paisley Park and Thyme Hill.
Last November’s Grade 2 Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury saw Thyme Hill get the better of his rival by a length and a half before 2019 Stayers’ Hurdle winner Paisley Park got revenge at Ascot three weeks later.
The two horses are set to face off in the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle – the feature race on a jam-packed St Patrick’s Day schedule. It’s the leading long-distance hurdle event in the National Hunt calendar, with 12 hurdles over a daunting distance of about three miles on the New Course lying in wait. It promises to be one hell of a race.
Paisley Park was the odds-on favourite to win last year’s renewal but he failed to fire as 50-1 shot Lisnagar Oscar claimed a shock victory. The reigning champ is among a host of potential runners including last year’s Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle winner Sire Du Berlais.
A total of 51 entries were submitted for the 2021 Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle, but the field will be trimmed before race day. Thanks to our non-runner money back offer, there’s no risk of losing out if your pick pulls out!
Andrew Cunneen: “SIRE DU BERLAIS is a decent-priced shot for the Stayers’ Hurdle and while Flooring Porter clearly had his number in the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him reverse that form as he was probably raced too prominently”
