One lucky punter pocketed nearly £5,000 off a 70p bet to leave Paddy Power reeling after an outrageous run of results at Leicester races on Sunday.
The Newcastle-based bettor landed a £4,789 payout when all three selections in his 5 pence each-way Patent (stake 70p) won at the eye-popping odds of 6,841/1.
The lucky lad or lass got their day off to an excellent start in the 12.20pm – a 1m7f juvenile maiden hurdle – when Blue Slate (50/1) upset the odds to see off the favourite Opine with a gutsy display.
The Barry Brennan-trained three-year-old went to post a big outsider, but our racing fan got onboard even earlier at odds of 100/1.
Next up was a 2m 4f handicap chase and it was another result for the bookies when 40/1 shot Gustav disputed the lead over the last and was driven out to see off Fact Flow by a neck.
A good day was then turned into an absolute stunner as the Richard Newland-trained Theo (20/1) took the spoils in a 2m 4f handicap chase for veteran runners over 10 years old. Despite being the shortest price runner of the three selections, he duly completed the outrageous Patent(three singles, 3 doubles & a treble) by holding off Sir Ivan and favourite Garde La Victoire by half a length.

Such an unlikely run of results meant a miserable Monday for the man in charge of the money as the each-way patent all clicked to give our pal the maximum return from his daring play.
A Patent is made up of seven bets (three singles, three doubles and a treble) but the fact that all three selections won at such big prices added a lot of icing to the cake for our intrepid punter.
All we can do is tip our cap and say “well done and welcome to our Punting Hall of Fame!”
