Cheltenham Results: Day three of the November meeting as it happened

What a day!

Envoi Allen Novices' Hurdle Cheltenham March 11, 2020

The final day of the Cheltenham November meeting is in the books and what a wild ride it has been – there’s been thrills, spills, big wins, shock upsets and even a dead heat (err, kinda) – and we had a super six races on Sunday to round it all off.

Every race from today is available to watch live and completely free on Paddy’s app and on PP.com and yes, that includes the ones that weren’t on the telly!

Not all heroes wear capes, we know, don’t mention it.

So saddle up for the lowdown on all six of Sunday’s races at Paddy Power November meeting to close an epic few days racing.

Cheltenham 13:15 – Novices’ Chase

Result

  1. The Big Breakaway (4/9F)
  2. Doc Penfro (12/1)
  3. The Butcher Said (8/1)

It was a winning start to the day for Colin Tizzard as THE BIG BREAKAWAY scored brilliantly on his chasing debut to kick-off the action at Prestbury Park. A mistake from The Butcher Said three out denied any hope of a challenge to The Big Breakaway, but Robbie Power in the saddle big a great job to cruise the favourite home to a 10-length victory over Doc Penfro in second.

Cheltenham 13:50 – Handicap Chase

Result

  1. Ramses De Teillee (11/2)
  2. Yala Enki (11/2)
  3. Big River (16/1)

RAMSES DE TEILLEE and Yala Enki renewed their rivalry from the 2018 Welsh Grand National and what a battle it was. Yala Enki held the lead for much of the way under an excellent ride from Bryony Frost, but Ramses De Teillee caught up with him two flights out and hit the front. The two were almost inseparable all the way to the finish and it required a photo to confirm that David Pipe’s charge had just got there by a short neck.

Cheltenham 14:25 – Shloer Cheltenham Chase

Result

  1. Put The Kettle On (7/4)
  2. Duc Des Genievres (8/1)

This race will be remembered for an unbelievable ride by Aidan Coleman on PUT THE KETTLE ON. After Defi Du Seuil was worryingly pulled up before the last, it looked for all the world that Duc Des Genievres was easing to victory. But, he tired after landing over the final flight and Henry De Bromhead’s mare started to reel him in. With the line in sight, Put The Kettle On put the perfect ending on a brave ride and took the lead, riding on to a fabulous 1-and-three-quarter length success.

Cheltenham 15:00 – Greatwood Handicap Hurdle

Result

  1. The Shunter (13/2)
  2. Ballyandy (8/1)
  3. Tegerek (4/1 fav)
  4. Hunter Call (16/1)

Favourite Tegerek provided the pre-race entertainment as he refused to join the field, but once he did he could only climb to third place as Ballinsker, Ballyandy and last year’s winner, Harambe, were well-placed to take the Greatwood. But it was THE SHUNTER who emerged at the last to take the day’s feature event and claim another Cheltenham win for Emmet Mullins and Ireland.

Cheltenham 15:35 – The Sharp Novices’  Hurdle

Result

  1. For Pleasure (14/1)
  2. Third Time Lucki (Evens Fav)

FOR PLEASURE made the early running, stretching out a lead of up to 20 lengths from the rest of the field right from the start and never relinquished it under Harry Bannister for trainer Alex Hales. Favourite Third Time Lucki managed to close the lead to within three lengths in the final straight as the leader tired but the winner dug in and held on for an unlikely win.

Cheltenham 16:05 – Open National Hunt Flat Race

Result

  1. Good Risk At All (13/2)
  2. Grandeur D’ame (10/3)
  3. Weseekhimhere (10/11 Fav)

Sunday’s finale saw a French one-two take the top spots as GOOD RISK AT ALL held off Grandeur D’ame and favourite Wessekhimhere to claim the last race of the Cheltenham November meeting under Sam Twiston-Davies at a healthy 13/2.
