Fairyhouse 12.45 – Hostage To Fortune
Barry Connell hasn’t made a bad start as a trainer, with four wins from his first 23 runners and he may be able to add another winner in the form of Hostage To Fortune. He showed the first glimpse of ability on his chase debut on his final start for Keith Clarke when 4th behind Sizing Pottsie in a beginners chase at Fairyhouse. Hostage To Fortune bettered that form when third on his first start for Connell in a beginners chase at Galway behind Pakens Rock, who followed up under a penalty on his next start, and Thatsy.
A literal reading of that form would have Hostage To Fortune make him very difficult to beat if repeating that level of form.
Exeter 16.25 – Lucky’s Dream
Lucky’s Dream has won seven of his 23 starts on the flat and is currently rated 77 on turf and now makes his handicap debut over hurdles off what could prove to be a very lenient opening mark of just 99. He had three starts over hurdles in the first half of 2019 and hasn’t been over jumps since and while he has disappointed on his last two starts on the flat, he did win three times on the all-weather in the first half of this year.
If he can translate any of that ability to hurdles, he should prove difficult to beat here.
Redcar 16.10 – Cornerstone Lad
Cornerstone Lad is clearly much more effective over hurdles than he is on the flat but he is too well treated here to ignore, especially considering he has had a run to blow away the cobwebs. A Grade 1 winner over hurdles when he beat Buveur D’air in the Fighting Fifth, he is rated 159 in that sphere and runs here off a mark of just 71. He wasn’t disgraced when fourth last month at this track when shaping like he would improve plenty for the run and he should go much closer with a return to Newcastle for the Fighting Fifth at the end of this month his main target.
