HELMOUNT made an extremely encouraging debut at Haydock when overcoming trouble in running to prevail in a tight finish. He was significantly better than the bare form of that, which has been subsequently well advertised with the three that followed him home all winning since. That performance also reads well on the clock and he looks to have strong claims of taking this step up to listed company in his stride.
Having appeared to run into smart types in his last three runs, SWORD ZORRO can go one better here. Although there are two promising Coolmore runners having their second start, the experience Sword Zorro has (1 length behind Wembley at Roscommon), and the potential to dictate the running of this small field affair is enough to get my vote.
PILEON is making his chase debut here, though it’s a positive they pitch him in here for his first start as it must mean he’s been schooling well. He was last seen finishing second in a typically hot renewal of the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham and he looks set to improve further for the switch the fences. He’s up against a few decent types here, though gets weight off them all, and I’ll be very disappointed if he doesn’t prove good enough to take this.
HELVIC DREAM was very impressive the last day at the Curragh when winning a Group 3 by 7 lengths and, with his favoured soft ground here against moderate opposition, he should go very close again.
YOU SAY NOTHING caught the eye with the way he travelled on his first handicap start last time. It was over 2m so the step up in trip looks likely to suit. Trainer Gavin Cromwell puts a first-time tongue tie on him too, so he looks primed for a big run.
