Back on the all-weather after a disappointing showing on turf, LAURENTINA proved better than ever to gain a first handicap success at Chelmsford last month. She improved further to make it three wins from her last three starts on artificial surfaces over this course and distance on Sunday, quickening up the far rail to nab the well-treated runner-up close home.
She did get the gaps after her claimer took a brave route up the inside, but it’s still hard to say Laurentina was suited by the way the race developed given the positions of the other principles, so that effort is probably worth upgrading slightly. She is a progressive filly and a 3lb rise shouldn’t be enough to stop her bringing up the hat-trick.
A three-time winner at this course back in 2018, including over this distance, WHATWOULDYOUKNOW turned in his best effort of the season to finish a half-length second over this track and trip earlier this month.
Attracting support prior to the off, he was perhaps even unfortunate not to repay his backers, the progressive winner nipping up his inside after he’d been sent to win the race. He remains on an attractive mark – 1lb lower than his last winning mark – and looks well placed to go one better this time around.
POETS DANCE got back on the up for a first handicap success at Yarmouth in July, justifying support as she came home in front of a subsequent winner. She failed to fire in her three subsequent races – though two of those were in a higher grade then she perhaps needed to contest.
However, she looked right back to her best when third in a good handicap at Chelmsford last time, running her best race of the season under the handling of Luke Morris. Morris retains the ride here and, racing from the same mark, Poets Dance rates a big player on her tapeta debut.
