A wind operation seems to have made all the difference to Lord Neidin, who proved a different proposition on his first outing since the surgery at Kempton in August, showing improved form to finish second in what has since proved a warm race for the grade (the winner going in again subsequently).
He didn’t need to improve much on that effort to open his account over this course and distance the following month, but he certainly deserves plenty of credit for pegging back the front runner, and his second at Haydock last time signalled yet more improvement, catching the eye with the way he went through the race, just edged out in the final 50 yards. He is a progressive colt with a positive profile and, up just 3 lb for his latest run, he is difficult to oppose.
A winner over this trip at Salisbury in August, a race he controlled well before bursting clear over two furlongs out, Siderealhas improved in defeat in his last two races at this venue. Making his handicap debut over a mile here last month, he did enough to suggest his opening mark was a fair one, finishing fourth in a race that has since worked out well.
He confirmed the promise of that effort when finding just one too good under similar conditions last time, headed only late on. He is still lightly raced, is on a fair mark and will remain of interest, especially as there could be more in the locker now stepped back down in trip.
Master Rocco has been hit and miss this season, his two latest runs falling under the latter category, but he ran well over this course and distance back in July, in fact, he produced a performance on par with the best he ever has to finish runner-up. He was helped by being held up in a strongly-run race on that occasion, and with confirmed front runner Cristal Pallas Cat likely to ensure that this is a real test, things could be nicely set up for Master Rocco to repeat the feat and maybe even go one better. Oisin Murphy taking over in the saddle only sweetens the deal.
