Horse Racing tips: Ruby Walsh’s top tips for Limerick and the Curragh on Sunday

Ruby Walsh has picked out eight potential winners ahead of some cracking jumps action at Limerick and the Curragh on Sunday.

Speaking on the latest episode of the twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, our resident jockey-turned-pundit has high hopes for Cape Gentleman in the Paddy Power Irish Cesarewitch and is also expecting a big performance from My Sister Sarah in the Listed Mares Hurdle.

1.00pm Limerick – Slige Dala

This race, if it was in 10 days time, would be three times stronger because it would include horses that had won at Listowel last month. It just comes too soon, and that is poor programming. But SLIGE DALA did well to win the last day and will probably get home here again.

2.10pm Curragh – Lady Princess

Looking at the 11 declared in the Anglesey Stakes, I’m not sure if it is the strongest renewal. Aunty Bridy for Jim Bolger will definitely warrant respect while LADY PRINCESS won well first time up for Denis Hogan then got beaten. She won at Bellewstown, got beaten on her second start when third at Navan but then won at Fairyhouse. She beat Provocateuse on her first start and I would say she’s not a bad filly.

2.30pm Limerick – My Sister Sarah

With Brogine, Ellie Mac and Le Hachette there, MY SISTER SARAH is the one for me all day long. She was second to Great White Shark at Galway over hurdles and has run on the Flat since. She was second to The Storyteller at Galway over hurdles as well and the trip will suit her. The track will suit her, the ground will suit her and she will win.

2.40pm Curragh – High Heels

HIGH HEELS is the one for me. Was second to Shale, and won last time out at Cork. The fourth horse in that, Sacred Rhyme, absolutely bolted in at Thurles on Thursday.

3.10pm Curragh – Sonnyboyliston

I have to agree with Frank Hickey when he says SONNYBOYLISTON. This looked like a horse that was really in the wrong grade the last day when he won at the Curragh. That was a handicap and he made an absolute mockery of it. I think whatever beats Sonnyboyliston will win.

3.40pm Curragh – Cape Gentleman

CAPE GENTLEMAN for me. I know Willie Mullins has a couple of runners – Royal Illusion and Kaatskill Nap – and they’re both in great form, but I though Cape Gentleman on his first start for Emmet Mullins ran a cracking race in Listowel when he was second to Mt Leinster. The third horse then, Arcadian Sunrise, absolutely bolted up in the two-mile Maiden at Thurles on Thursday. Ronan Whelan rides, and I think Cape Gentleman for me.

4.00pm Limerick – Walk Away/Internal Transfer

I would agree with Frank Hickey again and look at WALK AWAY and INTERNAL TRANSFER.

Plenty of the field had too hard a race in the Kerry National. Mortal, Doctor Duffy, Moyhenna and The West’s Awake – at least Internal Transfer fell early enough that he didn’t have a hard race. This race is pretty open and a good contest but I would be on Walk Away and Internal Transfer.
