Horse Racing tips: Jason Weaver’s best bets for Longchamp’s Sunday card

A big day needs some big calls.

Jason Weaver Flat Racing

13:15 St Marks Basilica

Was thrown into Group one company on only his second lifetime start and went off favourite for that contest where he finished close up behind Lucky Vega in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

He easily landed his maiden after and then showed his greenness again when a close-up third to Thunder Moon in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes. He weaved around underneath Ryan Moore before getting the message and will be much more streetwise for this assignment.

13:50 Thunder Beauty

Comes from the Ken Condon stable that have been regularly punching well above their weight and she seems to have been forgotten in the market. A tidy winner on her racecourse debut, she then produced a very good performance up at the highest level in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

She was held up at the back of the pack and stayed on very well late on. The ground may well play to her strengths and she represents value at double-digit odds.

15:05 Raabihah (each-way)

The big race of the day, the Prix de l’arc de Triomphe. Raabihah has not had too much luck in her last three races to date as she was very unlucky when posted wide in the French Oaks and it was a similar story in her Arc trial last time in the Vermeille.

At least now she is drawn close to the fence on the inside and won’t be posted deep on the outside of the track. She also looks to be an improver under these extreme conditions and the truly run 1m 4f looks tailor-made for her.

15:50 Tickle Me Green (each-way)

She has a very similar level of form as rival Tawkeel and is more than triple the price! Look back at her last start and you’ll see it was a complete horror show from the two-furlong marker. She never saw any daylight whatsoever and finished on the bridle. She comes with plenty of positives and the trip,  track and ground are all in her favour.

16:25 Wooded

Has also been handed a favourable stall in box two as she is just one of the paint, whereas the red-hot favourite Glass Slippers is posted deep on the track in stall 10.  Wooded was only having his first lifetime start over the minimum 5f distance last time out and after being slowly away, was always fighting an uphill battle against some proven speedsters with more experience.

He had previously been locking horns with Group One performers Pinatubo and Space Bues over further and is the unknown quantity in this race now.

16:55 Earthlight

There are some big-priced selections for Paddy this week over in France however towards the tail end of the card it looks like the top end of the market will get the job done for favourite backers.

Earthlight’s last victory over this course and distance was mightily impressive as he cantered into contention at the furlong marker and was not hard pushed to win comfortably by 3/4 of a length.

It wouldn’t be Arc weekend without a victory at the highest level for the master trainer, Andre Fabre.
