Frank Hickey and Paddy Power have picked out their very best bets ahead of this weekend, with both focusing on Saturday’s packed card at Longchamp.
Speaking on the latest episode of the twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, our dynamic duo were each pushed to name their stand-out selection prior to a bumper few days of action – and Paddy couldn’t help but up the stakes with a cheeky double.
I’m backing THE REVENANT in the Prix Daniel Wildenstein at Longchamp. He won the race last year by four-and-a-half lengths from Olmedo – won very easily. And he was second in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes behind King Of Change.
Absolutely loves a bog, which he’s going to get. He has a really good record fresh as well – he’s won first time out over the last three seasons and is five from five coming off a break of over 50 days.
He hasn’t been seen yet this season, but that is by design. They are keeping him back for an Autumn campaign and he will take a bit of beating.
I can’t believe Frank is tipping up a 5/4 shot as his NAP! THE REVENANT is part of my NAP, but I’m going to make it an 11/2 shot by doubling it up on Saturday with the very first race at Longchamp.
You may as well get all your chips on the table in the first race, so I’m backing MAX VEGA in the Prix Chaudenay. He will be about 2/1, or a bit shorter than that, while The Revenant at 5/4 makes the double around 11/2 or thereabouts.
Max Vega is a really good two-year-old who loves soft ground. Frank has made the case for The Revenant, so what could possibly go wrong?
