Arc de Triomphe tips: Paddy Power backs Enable to win but picks Serpentine as one to watch

Paddy is hoping for a fairytale result at Longchamp

Paddy Power wants to see Enable win a record-breaking third Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this weekend, although he is not convinced that the six-year-old has improved from her failed attempt 12 months ago.

Instead our main man is expecting Derby winner Serpentine to make a splash at a rain-lashed Longchamp on Sunday while, speaking on the latest episode of the twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, Paddy also picked out an interesting each-way bet to consider.

Put it like this, if Stradivarius is a 7/1 shot then Enable is probably a good thing. If the race isn’t as good as last year, I think she’ll probably win.

But it’s hard to think that she’s better than last year or the year before that. She wasn’t good enough last year, she was barely good enough the year before that and she won pretty easily the first year.

Of course she ‘can’ win it. She’ll handle the ground, if Frankie Dettori holds on to her a bit longer. Not that I would be one to give him tactical advice for how to ride a race like the Arc, but if he held on to her a bit longer last year she might have held on to win.

Going through the field, I’ve picked up a couple of others. I was going to go for Sottsass because he finished strong in the Champion Stakes. I know it was disappointing that he didn’t really trouble the judge but he was third in this race last year and might be a better horse this year – although I could argue that either way with his form this year.

Even with a bad draw, the Derby winner SERPENTINE is interesting. Hopefully he can get away and get off in front. Christophe Soumillion on board might be able to dictate the pace and could be hard to catch. He’s very interesting and I will definitely be backing that each-way.

And the other one at a huge price is WAY TO PARIS, to stay on and place probably. I think Enable is the most likely winner but I’m going to say my first choice in the race is Serpentine and my each-way choice is Way To Paris.
