Ruby Walsh: Enable can beat Love in Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

Her record is incredible and the top pundit thinks she can win her third Arc crown.

Ruby Walsh believes Enable has what it takes to be beat Love and secure a record-breaking third Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

The superstar six-year-old won in 2017 and 2018 before being touched off by Waldgeist in last year’s showpiece event at Longchamp.

But Ruby, speaking on the latest episode of Paddy Power’s twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, is backing the John Gosden-trained mare to see off major threat Love and become the most successful horse ever to race in the Group 1 Classic.

She has a great chance of picking up her third Arc. I know Love is the big danger, but just look at Enable’s record – it’s incredible.

Alright, this season she started with a defeat to Ghaiyyath in the Eclipse. But she then won the King George VI Stakes and they took the easy option going to Kempton in an effort to have her in peak condition for Longchamp.

Waldgeist ran her down last year in the Arc but it was a strongly run Arc. Ghaiyyath had gone hard, and Magical was on the front end.

Enable Waldgeist Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe 2019

Frankie Dettori rode the very same race as in 2018 but on slightly slower ground and that just caught her out in the end.

She’s won three King George’s, two Oaks, the Breeders’ Cup, two Prix de l’Arcs – she’s a helluva race mare and I’m in her camp.

She’s won £10.7 million or more in career earnings, while she’s had 18 starts and won 15 times.

She’s the racehorse of a lifetime.

She beat Sovereign in the King George and she was second to Ghaiyyath in the Eclipse with Japan just behind her, but then you look at what Love has beaten.

Alpinista was beaten at Newmarket at the weekend, Ennistymon has fallen off the face of the earth, and Cloak Of Spirits is the third horse that Love has beaten this year.

You look at what Enable has beaten through her career – Jack Hobbs, Ulysses, Defoe, Sea Of Class, Magical, Crystal Ocean, Waldgeist – they’re superstars compared to what Love has beaten.

When you look at it like that, Enable has definitely achieved more in her career and beaten better horses than Love has.
