Horse Racing tips: Frank Hickey and Ruby Walsh run the rule over tonight’s Diamond Stakes at Dundalk

There's a big race to look out for at Dundalk tonight

Dundalk-Races

Frank Hickey and Ruby Walsh have taken a brief look at tonight’s card at Dundalk, specifically focusing on the prestigious Diamond Stakes.

Speaking on the latest episode of Paddy Power’s twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, the pair have gone separate ways ahead of the showpiece race – although both expect their selections to pass the post first.

Frank Hickey

6.45pm – Simsir

The Diamond Stakes looks quite competitive, and I would probably take a chance on SIMSIR for Mick Halford. He’s had two starts at Dundalk, winning in September 2019 and beating Yuften then was touched off in a handicap off a mark of 95 by Charcor.

He was out in Meydan then and earlier this year managed to win a handicap, beating Dubai Icon off a mark of 100 and was actually second in another handicap behind Certain Lad off a mark of 98. Certain Lad obviously franked his form this year and is really progressive.

Simsir was second in a Listed race at Leopardstown behind Bolleville in July and didn’t run to badly at The Curragh on Champions Weekend – fifth out of 22 off a mark of 105. Getting back on the all-weather track, I think he might be the one to beat.

Ruby Walsh

6.45pm – Crossfirehurricane

CROSSFIREHURRICANE is the one for me. I never really fancied him in the Irish Derby at a mile and a half but I think dropping back in trip, onto the all-weather – providing it’s dry – I think he’s made for it.
