Horse Racing Tips: 4 punts we fancy for Listowel and the Curragh on Saturday

They'd make a nice acca.

Curragh

12.50pm CURRAGH – BELMONT AVENUE

We start the Saturday card at the Curragh with a big field for a one-mile maiden where the Joseph O’Brien trained BELMONT AVENUE can strike under Declan McDonagh for owner Lloyd Williams. The son of Zoffany made encouraging late headway when only beaten a head-on debut behind the Jessica Harrington trained Malaysian at Cork ten-days ago and can improve to win the opener at HQ.

Elsewhere, Seamie Heffernan has decided to ride Ballydoyle newcomer Santa Barbara over twice raced Hector De Maris with Wayne Lordan in the saddle. The Aga Khan owned Kailash and Kalaroun are two others to note with Always Waitin, Snap Chap and My Minervina other leading contenders who could reach the frame.

2.15pm LISTOWEL – FINEST EVERMORE

FINEST EVERMORE was expected to see off the opposition when bolting up on her hurdles debut and returns here in novice company to hopefully provide Willie Mullins and Paul Townend with another winner at Listowel this week. She dominated from the front at Tipperary and another similar ride looks likely at a venue which has produced several forward ridden winners this week.

The filly by Yeats gets weight from all rivals here and remember Willie Mullins knows the calibre of horse required to win this race having previously claimed success with Long Dog and Fabulous Saga in 2015 and 2017. Elsewhere, the vastly experienced Saint D’Oroux looks the main danger for Gordon Elliott having finished third in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham in March.

Listowel-Races

3.15pm CURRAGH – HIGH DEFINITION

Aidan O’Brien has dominated the feature Beresford Stakes over the past decade, winning the Group 2 contest nine consecutive times since 2011, which included success more recently with Saxon Warrior and Japan in 2017 and 2018. The once raced HIGH DEFINITION is his main representative this year with jockey Seamie Heffernan in the saddle today despite siding against the son of Galileo on his winning debut at the Curragh last month. It was an impressive victory under Wayne Lordan, coming from off the pace and learning plenty in an educational winning ride which caught the eye of most horse watchers.

Brazil takes his chance following a game victory over Colour Sergeant here last month, while Wuqood and Ace Aussie look other interesting contenders for Dermot Weld and Jessica Harrington. The Shadwell homebred was a surprise winner on debut at Gowran Park, while Ace Aussie caught my eye when winning with a bit in hand over seven-furlongs at Cork earlier this month and looks the main danger to the favourite.

Ides of August returns quickly for Ger Lyons having finished behind Cadillac at Leopardstown, but High Definition should have enough improvement and class to win here and perhaps be supplemented for the Futurity Stakes at Doncaster next month.

5.00pm LISTOWEL – DEADHEAT

The inform DEADHEAT can strike again for Sean and Noel McParlan to win these qualified riders handicap chase at the backend of the Listowel card this Saturday evening. The seven-year-old is only having his third start under rules in Ireland following a successful spell in France, before making his Irish debut when third in a Lismore point to point in March.

He travelled and jumped well to secure victory at Wexford four-weeks ago and can defy a seven-pound rise in the ratings to secure back to back victories today. Sir Bob looks the main danger under Derek O’Connor for Robert Tyner but has not been seen on the track since January and returns to fences following a good second-place finish in a handicap hurdle at Navan.

Betting Summary:

12.50pm CURRAGH – BELMONT AVENUE
3.15pm CURRAGH – HIGH DEFINITION
2.15pm LISTOWEL – FINEST EVERMORE
5.00pm LISTOWEL – DEADHEAT
