Ruby Walsh and Paddy Power have cast their eye over the field ahead of the Kerry National at Listowel (4:30pm) this afternoon.
The showpiece event is the main attraction of the Harvest Festival at the County Kerry racecourse, and our main men picked out two to watch during the latest episode of the now twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast.
I would always start by looking at the Galway Plate and this year Cabaret Queen was third, The West’s Awake was fourth and Blazer was seventh.
Ravenhill comes here after being fifth in the Galway Plate last year. He hasn’t run since he won the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham Festival in March so fitness will be a worry for him.
The one who I think could be really interesting is MORTAL. He unseated early in the Galway Plate and then went to Killarney where he beat Robin Des Foret and Blazer.
He’s up 6lbs from that win, but his but that previous victory was in a race that I won on two horses before they both won the Kerry National. They both went from there to win in Listowel and Mortal could still be a hell of a handicapper.
He was fourth in the Kim Muir Handicap Chase at Cheltenham. We haven’t seen him since but Henry is quite good at getting his horses right for these events and obviously his chasers are the best horses that he has.
So I just thought Plan Of Attack might be one that is still a little bit unexposed in handicaps.

Ruby Walsh – MORTAL

Paddy Power – Plan Of Attack
I’m siding with PLAN OF ATTACK for Henry de Bromhead.
