Lavenders Blue is a bit of a cliff horse for me but she was unlucky not to land back to back renewals of the Atalanta Stakes last time over this course and distance. With a clear run, I think she would have gone very close and the very slowly run nature of the race wouldn’t have suited her style.
She drops to Listed level here and goes up against the colts for the first time but Sandown on fast ground is her thing. My one concern is the potential for a lack of pace. Hopefully it is not run at a dawdle and once the pace is honest, she should run well.
This is a very useful little race for the track but Cottam Lane makes plenty of appeal on the back of a very promising debut at Hamilton.
He was second to another promising debutant but the form has been given a fairly decent boost last week at Doncaster when the 3rd from Hamilton, Burning Cash, finished a close 4th in the Group 2 Flying Childers at Doncaster last week.
Cottam Lane showed good pace on debut and I think there is every chance that he will bounce out in front here and he could take plenty of pegging back.
Ginger Jam is out quickly after a poor effort at Doncaster in the Portland at the weekend but he looks to have solid each way claims here, especially considering that he is unbeaten in five starts at Beverley.
He won for the first time at Beverley last season off a mark of 64 but won here last year off 80 and finds himself off just a 3lb higher mark here. Fast ground suits and he is drawn well in stall 2, so everything should be in place for another big run.
Tight Call showed plenty of ability has a novice hurdler in the 2018/2019 season and was second in a nice handicap at Wincanton at Tedham off a mark of 117 and was running a cracker in a good handicap at Ascot off a 5lb higher mark when falling at the last.
Last season didn’t work out as well as connections would have liked but he returned in August in a Southwell handicap off a mark of 117 and he duly made no mistake and might well now be able to kick on and realise his potential.
He has been given 6lbs from the handicapper but that looks quite fair and I think he is more than capable of defying the rise in the handicap.
