The complexion of this race will change a lot if the third reserve FELICIDAD gets in as she is likely to be hard to beat on debut for Gordon Elliott. If she doesn’t, Where’s Bunny showed enough at Wexford to suggest a win was within her. Kitty Galore chased home an odds-on poke here last week and can go well again.
Though he lacks a recent run, MILLEN TO ONE has the most convincing profile of this bunch and can get off the mark at the expense of Mam Trasna, who should come on for his recent Clonmel run and go much closer today. Deployed has ability but lacks hurdling experience.
Hard to look beyond the top horse BACK TO BATAAN. He may be a maiden after 17 starts but he has won a point and won’t get many better chances to win on that track than in this. It looks a great opportunity. Springsteen’s Girl and Nodoubtaboutthat probably haven’t shown their hand fully and are respected.
Recent winner Zinat and the consistent Ashton Court should take up a large chunk of the market and can be expected to run well but, at the likely odds, PAPAL COUNT could be worth siding with. He’s less exposed than most after just one handicap run and should have a day in him somewhere.
Though she has a bit to find with these, impressive C&D maiden winner FLEMINGS DREAM could be improving quickly enough to score, with the 7lb sex allowance a help. Metal Man won’t go down without a fight, while Friary Rock improved for blinkers last time and can go well.
Balinaboola Steel, Mick Charlie and WALK ME HOME are three in-form contenders here and marginal preference is for the last-named, who has fewer miles on the clock and waltzed home at Wexford last time. She went up 13lb but should have loads more to give. Golden Apples is interesting.
It is difficult to oppose A WAVE OF THE SEA (nap) here. He is a Grade 1-winning hurdler who made a satisfactory chasing debut last time and should have too much for these. Lever Du Soleil has some solid chase runs to fall back on and can run well, as can Future Proof and Mister Eddman.
An open race in which nothing can be safely ruled out. A chance is taken on BORO TARI to follow up her Tramore beginners’ win when she jumped well and could improve over this trip. C&D winner High Sparrow has more to offer too, while Napoleon Blue should be thereabouts also.
