Pretty Pickle had excuses when disappointing on her handicap debut at Chepstow last month, racing freely and finding herself poorly placed given how the race developed. She is clearly better than that, as she showed when keeping on well to be beaten just three quarters of a length on her penultimate outing at Yarmouth (finished with running left).
That form comfortably sets the standard now back in a novice, and, with further improvement not out of the question, she rates a confident selection as she seeks a first win for the William Haggas yard.
19:45 Capla Huntress (NB)
A winner over course and distance on her final 2019 start, Capla Huntress has quickly picked up where she left off after an encouraging reappearance, showing improved form to win both her last two starts at Yarmouth. She was value for extra on the most recent occasion, hitting the front two furlongs out and never looking in any danger of defeat, always doing enough to land the spoils by a length and a quarter.
She has another 4 lb rise in the weights to contend with in her hat-trick bid, but her way of racing suggests she can stay ahead of the handicapper for a while longer yet, especially as she doesn’t seem to have finished improving.
17:10 Max Oclock (e/w)
Max Oclock took a big step forward to get off the mark on her nursery debut at Ayr two weeks ago, staying on well to lead inside the final furlong, ultimately winning comfortably by a length and three quarters.
Her strength at the finish suggests the step up to six furlongs here will unlock further improvement, so she remains one to be positive about from a 7 lb higher mark, especially if getting a strong pace to aim at (likely to be held up for a late run).
