PRESENT CHIEF did always appeal as the type to do better in handicaps, and he has certainly proven that to be the case.
He showed improved form to finish runner-up on his handicap debut at Fakenham back in March, his first start following a breathing operation, and he again found only one too good on his return to action at Uttoxeter in July.
Present Chief then went one better, making smooth headway before quickening clear over the longer trip at Uttoxeter last time, proving far too good for his rivals.
He is open to further improvement and a 10lb rise for his recent victory doesn’t look overly harsh, particularly with the step up in trip likely to show him to even better advantage.
A bumper winner who is also fairly useful over hurdles, JAYTRACK PARKHOMES was strong in the betting and matched the pick of his hurdle form on his chase debut at Wincanton in January.
He took to the discipline well enough, but shaping as though the two-mile trip was on the sharp side for him, ultimately finishing second.
He shaped as though in need of the race when down the field at Newton Abbot over the smaller obstacles last month, but that should have at least served to blow away the cobwebs and Colin Tizzard’s charge is a big player on just his second start over fences.
EVER SO COOL’s bare form figures do not make for particularly encouraging reading, but she was better than the result in a pair of bumpers.
She shaped with glimpses of promise in her two outings this season, including when not given a hard time of it when fourth at Bangor last time.
She has the hood fitted for the first time on her handicap debut and arrives in this sphere with plenty of scope for improvement, so she is certainly an interesting contender from what could be a potentially lenient opening mark.
