Roger Varian’s PREMIER POWER looked Group-race material when bolting up from a good horse at Kempton last October and he can make a successful, if somewhat belated, reappearance. Sky Storm also returns from an absence and she too shaped with considerable promise on her only sighting as a 2yo. Recall The Show has ability but is beginning to look exposed.
16:25 Miami Joy
Just 3lb separating the four runners. Preference is for MIAMI JOY, whose only defeat came in a Group 2 and he’s looked very much at home on the Polytrack. Arsonist is second choice.
16:55 Accomplice
The mare ACCOMPLICE ran a cracker behind one bang in form at Salisbury last time and she’ll be well up for this, returning to the scene of her last three wins. As always the case, she’ll need some luck from off the pace. Downgraded and in first-time blinkers, there could be a revival in Pentimento.
17:25 Azets
As a C&D winner there’s optimism that Dancing Jo can reverse recent turf placings with Crystal Carole, but one who might beat them both is AZETS. Another C&D winner, his latest run here was better than it looks and he then finished second at Windsor. His yard is going great guns at the minute.
18:00 Spanish Kiss
Viola was unfortunate to miss out here three weeks ago but she is now 4lb higher and this could turn out to be a stronger race. Escalade is likely to be involved once more but SPANISH KISS has shown promise at shorter and looks sure to improve for this longer trip. Dusk and Besides are other interesting newcomers to handicaps, while Raventree is also considered back on Polytrack.
18:30 Bailarico
Walk It Talk It has strong claims if judged on her C&D second two starts ago, while several of the others are unexposed over today’s trip. However, it might pay to chance one of the older warriors, BAILARICO, who is now very well handicapped on some of last year’s form. Warren Greatrex’s 7yo didn’t fire last time but he contributed to a strong pace when fourth at Chepstow two starts ago and that run was arguably a fair bit better than the bare form suggests. Speech Room and By Jove are others to consider.
19:00 Illustrious Spirit
None of the runners are convincing. ILLUSTRIOUS SPIRIT was having his first run since wind surgery when third at Bath and he edges preference, ahead of Little Floozie and Mercers.
19:30 Global Acclamation (NAP)
Diamond Cottage is 3lb ahead of the handicapper after a good run in defeat on turf on Friday but his AW record is very off-putting and preference is for GLOBAL ACCLAMATION (nap), who bumped into an improver when a clear second at Wolverhampton 16 days ago and can probably cope with a subsequent 5lb rise. Mr Mac has something to prove after a low-key return from his near five-month break but has slipped to a tempting mark.
