Horse Racing Tips: Jason Kiely’s 3 best bets including a NAP at Deauville on Sunday

Our man in France takes a deep dive into the best of the action at Deauville on Sunday.

DeauvilleMay20c

There is huge anticipation surrounding this Sunday’s fantastic card at Deauville and racing fans are treated to a group one doubleheader. Many jockey changes due to COVID-19 restrictions and the very testing ground conditions can only add to the drama on what looks to be a fantastic day’s racing.

A wide-open Prix Morny offers huge value if you search outside of the favourite and the other Group One the Prix Jean Romanet is where we find my NAP of the day. This is one of the strongest bets I put up for a while and possibly the entire flat season.

14:50 Nazeef (NAP)

The master John Gosden looks to have found a golden opportunity to add another Group One to the tally of Nazeef here in what looks a below standard edition of this race. Albeit there are plenty of runners, the majority look exposed but Nazeef has done nothing wrong in her for run this season including when finishing a terrific third behind Fancy Blue last time out and could still be on the upgrade.

The soft ground shouldn’t be an issue for her as her Group One success in the Falmouth Stakes came on quite testing ground. My main concern would be that Nazeef has had a lot of racing recently having run four times in two months in quite competitive races and also the fact that she may not get the trip as easily on such testing ground, but these are not major issues and her class should seal the deal.

Joseph O’Brien’s ex-French trained filly Bolleville made a good impression the last day and may well be the biggest danger here but her form in France was a lot below this standard and I struggle to see her beating Nazeef here on that evidence. The French charges, however, look pretty exposed and I imagine that this race played a big part in the decision of Frankie Dettori to stay in France for 2 weeks instead of facing confinement in the UK. I personally would be very disappointed to see this filly beaten and believe this is the strongest NAP that I’ve put up for a long time.

15:25 Call The Wind (NB)

Incredibly consistent throughout his career Call The Wind loves it around here and the yard generally comes into form at this time of the meeting. The multiple group one winner will love the ground and should have a huge chance as long as this race is run at a strong pace.

San Huberto is a huge danger having got the better of Call The Wind the last time out, but that race was not exactly run to Call The Wind’s advantage and I think that if his jockey Olivier Peslier can get to the head of the field in the early stages and set his own solid fractions than the result could be slightly different this time around.

Although this year’s renewal of the race looks incredibly strong and the Freddy Head stable is probably a little out of form I am hoping that his class can pull him through especially as his form around here at Deauville reads 121. For me, this is one of the most interesting horses of the day.

13:35 Livachope (e/w)

Arguably one of the most competitive Prix Morny fields we have seen for many a year and it will be very difficult to beat the American favourite and Royal Ascot winner Campenelle but the home team are well supported here and I am expecting Livachope to give a mighty performance.

The daughter of Goken (who was fourth in this race) has been unstoppable this season winning her maiden before going on to take a listed race and finally a Group Three at Paris Longchamp in only three starts. An obvious question over the 1200m trip has to be asked but she will have no problem with the softer ground.

If getting a clear run I can see her being very close to the leaders at the finish. I have had a few quid on this filly the last two times that she has run and I will certainly be getting stuck in again here.

She has never won by wide margins but she’s an honest, hardy battler and if it comes down to a duel at the finish I would expect Livachope to come out on top with most of these. At the prices, she looks very very attractive each-way prospect and if she was trained by one of the bigger yards she would be a much shorter price.
