Horse Racing tips: Ruby Walsh’s 3 best bets for Friday at York

Ruby's got 3 for you to see on Day 3 at the Ebor Festival.

2.15pm – Lonsdale Cup: Enbihaar

Stratum runs in the Lonsdale Cup which could be Willie Mullins’ first runner outside of Ireland since lockdown. He’s a stuffy horse who takes plenty of getting fit but is obviously very talented having won the English Cesarewitch last October.

He ran at Galway when seventh to Great White Shark and should improve again for this race. Ryan Moore rides Tony Bloom’s other runner Withold for Roger Charlton but both these former Cesarewitch winners need to step up to prove they are Group horses.

Eagles By Day ran fourth in a Goodwood Cup, two places behind Nayef Road who was second to Stradivarius that day. However, Enbihaar was really impressive when winning over 1m 6f at Goodwood also and the step up in trip at York won’t be a problem for her. She’s definitely the one they all have to beat.

2.45pm – Gymcarck Stakes: Minzaal

This is a race full of tradition and five of the 10-strong field are unbeaten. Mohawk King was impressive for Richard Hannon when winning first time out and Ubettabelieveit was good the last time he won. However, Owen Burrows looks to have a really good team of horses and I saw Minzaal winning at Salisbury and it never came off the bridle. He was so impressive, and I’ve been waiting for him to run again.

Battaash Goodwood

3.15pm – Nunthorpe Stakes: Battaash

This is all about Battaash and the only thing that can beat him whether that sub-59-second win at Goodwood has left a mark. He’s the best sprinter in training but if Goodwood has taken the edge of him, then Art Power looks best placed to take advantage.
