Anjalawi is fancied in what should be a close race in the card’s opener. The 2yo gave a good impression in her debut at Curragh last month, finishing 3rd of 16 on good going. On that occasion, she dwelt leaving the stalls but recovered, and is well-liked today.
Arctician had three great runs in his first three outings. Finished no lower than 3rd, with a 2nd place at Cork indicating he’ll do well today. Should be easy pickings when compared to the rest of the field, after running away with the Phoenix Stakes.
Drumquina was a Naas maiden winner over this trip last season, and had a nice run at Fairyhouse last month, finishing 3rd of 11. Had a disappointing run at Cork late last year, but should have improved enough to give a better showing today.
This race is likely to be wide open, with 18 runners to choose from. Watchmen could be the one to watch, however, after two nice runs at Killarney and Tipperary in recent weeks. The 3yo might enjoy the shorter trip today and is fancied to build on his back-to-back 3rd place finishes.
YaYa Baby looks a fine prospect, having recorded three top-two finishes on the spin, winning his most recent run at Galway earlier this month. The 3yo will be difficult to beat today, despite the 5lb rise. Will be ridden by Shane Foley today, the same rider who carried him to a win in his last run.
Musalsal, who will be ridden by R.P. Wheelan today, has shown steady improvement recently. The 4yo has been very active this summer, riding six times since the start of June alone. In that time he’s recorded two wins and a 3rd at Fairyhouse, and could be tough to catch today.
The mark of 77 looks workable for Kells, who received a wage allowance on his handicap debut. The 3yo could benefit from an in-form trainer-rider combination of Mrs J. Harrington and Shane Foley. Kells had a good showing at Sligo in his last run, finishing 2nd of 9.
