Horse Racing tips: Ruby Walsh’s Saturday 6 to get your kicks at Galway & Goodwood

Six of the best from the Walshmeister, hopefully.

15:00 at Goodwood – Snow

I thought Snow. I didn’t think they went overly quick in the Irish Oaks which didn’t suit her, I thought a better gallop would have suited her better. Even though she was in front she didn’t go that quick and I think a step-up in trip will really suit her at Goodwood.

15:35 at Goodwood – Gulliver

I rate Gulliver. He ran into Romantic Proposal in the Scurry handicap over 6f and 63 yards at the Curragh and I think Romantic Proposal needed the 63 yards to catch Gulliver. I think at a quicker 6 furlongs at Goodwood I’d be going for Gulliver.

15:10 at Galway – Eshtiya

This race features a big field of 16 runners, but I like one that is drawn in stall 12 and that’s Dermot Weld’s ESHTIYA. I’d prefer if she was drawn a fraction further in, but she still has an excellent chance.

She ran really well in Naas in her only run back on March 23. She was only a furlong down there when she got a bit tired. Why didn’t she race in June and July? I reckon she’s one that Dermot Weld put aside especially for Galway.

16:45 at Galway – Zozimus

I really like ZOZIMUS in this 7 furlong maiden. The colt had an okay first run, but was really eye-catching on his second start at Cork.

Donnacha O’Brien trains him and should be suited to a track like Galway. Gavin Ryan claims 5lbs off of his back and that can only be a positive.

17:15 at Galway – Princess Zoe

Halimi is a very consistent sort and I wouldn’t put anyone off backing it. He was second in the Curragh behind Rayounpour last Sunday over 10 furlongs. He’s stepping up to 12 furlongs here, that will surely suit him and he’s drawn in stall 11.

But, if you were watching Galway you’ll remember PRINCESS ZOE winning on Monday night. Finny Maguire got out of an impossible position when ninth at the furlong pole in the big amateur handicap over 2m to win well going away.

She gets in here with the mandatory penalty, but Joey Sheridan gets 5lbs off her back. She won the Ladies Derby over a mile-and-a-half at the Curragh, so the step down in trip here won’t inconvenience her in the slightest. I reckon she still looks well ahead of the handicapper too.

The other person we haven’t seen on the scoresheet yet in Galway (at time of publishing), but does traditionally get a winner is Tony Martin. He runs a horse called Melburnian and that should have a squeak as well.

17:45 at Galway – Dark Voyager

I tipped DARK VOYAGER for Willie Mullins on Monday and he just ran into one in the form of the Flying Scotsman – who won again on Tuesday night. That happens sometimes when you meet a really well handicapped horse and Dark Voyager is drawn in stall one now for jockey Shane Foley.

It’s the same trip, the same track and much the same race. I just hope there isn’t another Flying Scotsman in there.
