Horse racing tips: Our complete guide to today’s Musselburgh action

Here are The Racing Post’s tips for the Thursday July 30th meeting at Musselburgh.

Musselburgh-Racecourse

17:00 – Lazyitis

Lazyitis looks strong after a 2nd place finish at Beverley two weeks ago. The 2yo was strong at the finish after a tough draw, and looks like she’ll cope well with the distance today. Had a disappointing debut at Beverley last month, but looked a different horse on her second run.

17:30 – Lucky Beggar

Lucky Beggar isn’t quite the same dominant horse he used to be, but is still a competitive player today. The 10yo is back on his last winning mark, and reached the frame under positive tactics at Catterick Bridge at the start of the month. Has a 3rd and 4th to his name in July, and will be fancied to improve today.

18:00 – Rockley Point

This 7yo is looking in prime condition and is well-liked ahead of today’s race. Rockley Point comes into the race off the back of a win at Newcastle back in March. Hasn’t been out since the lockdown break, but has won at 5f on turf before, and will like the conditions today.

18:30 – Gowanbuster

Gowanbuster is on a hat-trick today after two sublime rides at Musselburgh already this year. Came back from lockdown in brilliant shape and won his two first races back, both at this track. 10lb higher than last time, but that shouldn’t be a problem for the 5yo.

19:00 – Simply Amazing

Simply Amazing is the half-brother to 6f winner Gustavus Weston, and is well-fancied today. The 2yo has only been out once, and put in a solid showing to come 4th of 13 at Chepstow a fortnight ago. Looks like he’ll improve when upped in trip.

19:30 – Rebel Soldier Boy

Rebel Soldier Boy is going for his second win on the bounce today, after putting in a brilliant ride at Catterick Bridge two weeks ago. This 3yo has reached the frame on both fast and soft ground in each of his last five starts, and looked to improve when having cheekpieces added for Catterick.

20:00 – False Id

False Id isn’t always the quickest off the mark, but is a solid performer at this level. His last run saw him finish 2nd of 15 at Leicester on July 17 on good-to-firm, and he’ll likely enjoy the conditions today. Will be well-fancied to go one better today and pick up the win.

20:30 – Susie Javea

This 3yo maiden has placed in five of her eight starts, and looks a real prospect. Susie Javea has three straight 3rd place finishes, and had a 2nd at Thirsk last summer. Could be in line to land her first win today if she can find that pace again and improve.

21:00 – Madeeh

Madeeh ran off his career-low mark to claim a victory at Catterick Bridge two weeks ago, and will be expected to continue that form. The 4yo quickened up to take the lead and never looked back. Has a 3lb penalty today, and will be hard to beat.
