Horse Racing tips: Mick Fitzgerald’s Friday 5 to thrive at Goodwood

He's been busy picking winners at Galway but Mick's Fitz's back on track for Friday at Goodwood.

Mick Fitzgerald

Goodwood 13:45 – Agincourt (each-way)

One Master is the deserved favourite in the opener. She won the Prix Foret on Prix de l’Arc day at Longchamp last year in the mud over this 7f trip. She was a little disappointing at Newmarket in the Falmouth Stakes, but she has the best form on offer overall. However, AGINCOURT came within a whisker of pulling off a massive surprise at the Royal meeting behind Nazeef in the Duke of Cambridge. Ryan Moore has been booked to ride and with the ground drying out, she is a very good each-way bet.

Goodwood 14:15 – Khaloosy

KHALOOSY is back on track and he was so impressive in the Britannia Handicap off a mark of 94. He is now rated 111 so what was a certainty to win that race. My Oberon bolted up at York but this is a different ball game. Tilsit won by 19l at Newcastle and he is by the same sire as the Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Siskin, so connections obviously feel that he is worth the step up in grade. Khaloosy was so impressive at the Royal meeting and can take this step up in grade in his stride.

Goodwood 14:45 – Sir Busker

The Golden Mile is a tough contest with Prompting all the range off only 8st 4lb. He bolted up at York and will have plenty of supporters. Montatham and Vale of Kent are closely matched on Royal Ascot form in the Hunt Cup but Montatham has won since so now pays the penalty with more weight to carry. I have a real soft spot for SIR BUSKER and this trip will suit him much better than when he was second in the 7f Bunbury Cup at Newmarket.

He looked so much happier at the mile when winning the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot before.

Goodwood 15:15 – Battaash

The 5f Group 2 King George Stakes is another opportunity for us to see Battaash at his favourite track. Liberty Beach will love it here but go with the speed machine Battaash, who has won three times at the track already.

Goodwood 15:45 – Desert Encounter

DESERT ENCOUNTER won this contest last year and caused a bit of a surprise in the process. His proposed trip to Dubai was stopped short with the pandemic and he looked a little rusty in his two runs since coming back. He was just behind Communique in the Princess of Wales Stakes at Newmarket with Alounak back in fifth. Communique did win a handicap at the track two years ago and looks the main danger to Desert Encounter.
