It’s a seven-race card from Goodwood on Wednesday with five contest on the main ITV channel with the feature being the Sussex Stakes.
Let’s get straight to it, and see what winners we can find!
Goodwood 13.10
William Haggas’ GHAZIYAH has been off the track since October when second in a handicap to Eva Maria, who has since been running in Listed company and was fourth to Franconia at the weekend in York, Ghaziyah looked useful last season and can’t be discounted.
Goodwood 13.45
A staying handicap kicks the ITV coverage off with an event over an extended 2m 4f. TRUE DESTINY has not run much since finishing third in this event last year and has every chance of making the frame again. He comes from an in form stable in that of Roger Charlton and was staying on strongly this time last year.
Goodwood 14.15
We’re in handicap company again, but this time over 1m 4f. COZONE was dropped back in trip from this distance when scoring last time, but will enjoy going back over 1m 4f. He’s capable of more for trainer Amanda Perrett and has a good draw to work from in stall four.
Goodwood 14.45
We move into Group 3 company with the Molecomb Stakes for the two-year-olds over 5f. SARDINIA SUNSET made quite hard work of scoring at York last time, but she still won. Her fourth-placed finish in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot is working out very well and she’s got plenty of ability for trainer Roger Varian and jockey Rossa Ryan.
Goodwood 15.15
The feature race of the day, the Group 1 Sussex Stakes over 1m looks a cracker. I’m all over MOHAATHER here who was my horse to follow this season on ITV. He looked an absolute monster at Ascot last time and his turn of foot is something else. I don’t think Ireland’s 2,000 Guineas winner Siskin or the English 2,000 Guineas hero, Kameko will be able to cope with the four-year-old even getting the weight-for-age allowance. He’s a big runner for trainer Marcus Tregoning.
Goodwood 15.45
If Sardinia Sunset goes well an hour earlier, it could be a real pointer to the 5f conditions race as COUNTRY CARNIVAL finished third to Sardinia Sunset at York. That was not a bad run at all for David O’Meara’s charge and she has a bit more experience than some in this field, which might be useful at this track. James Doyle takes the ride which is a plus.
Goodwood 16.20
ZHUI FENG can bounce back from a poor run last time and usually runs well at this track. Could be well handicapped on his best form in the finale and worth an each-way play in a race where Paddy is paying the first 4 home.
