Our Director of Racing Paddy Desmond sat in for Frank Hickey on a bonus From The Horse’s Mouth this Monday to deliver his verdict on the big races at Glorious Goodwood and the Galway Races Summer Festival.
You can hear the full podcast, which is overflowing with tips for the next few days, below. But here’s Paddy’s tips for Tuesday at Goodwood and Galway.
I’d probably be against Battleground on balance. I think the Chesham hasn’t really worked out and the overall time was a good two second slower than the Jersey which was the same card, same trip, same day. I thought the Mark Johnson horse King Zain was quite unlucky and ran a really good race at Newmarket and Frankie Dettori is booked to ride that so I might chance it each way at a much bigger price.
I’d probably say that Space Blues might beat Safe Voyage by further than last time because the ground will be a bit quicker than it was at Haydock so I’d be on Space Blues.
I think Santiago might be up to Stradivarius’s challenge. Stradivarius has kind of been beating the same horses over the last few years and I think he might be venerable over this trip now.
His best runs haven’t really been here and Santiago certainly has a lot more potential than the horses Stradivarius has been beating. He kind of reminds me of Stradivarius when he started winning big races and Santiago, at the price he’s at now, I think he could do him over similar to what Kew Gardens did last year.
Surrounding won this race last year and she ran a cracker behind Romanised and Lancaster House last week but the problem here is the draw. She was drawn one last year, she’s been drawn 15 this year. I think on that basis I’ll have to leave her out. The one I would be keen on is Celestial Object.
Looked a winner all over at Killarney. If the race was over 7 furlongs she would have won it so I think the drop back in trip might suit. She’s better drawn and getting the allowance as a three year old so Celestial Object.
Nebo, who was a 50/1 winner last time, is drawn one which is going to suit his running style in this race so it wouldn’t surprise me if he ran well again but I think there’s a pretty good case for Magnetic North.
