Horse racing tips: These 8 will keep you straight at the Curragh today

The Racing Post takes us through today's action in Co Kildare.

13:45 – St Marks Basilica

St Marks Basilica is the half-brother to 2019’s 2000 Guineas winner Magna Graecia, and is fancied today in part because of his pedigree. He’ll be making his debut today, but will be in a relatively inexperienced field. He will likely face competition from Flexible Approach.

14:20 – Palifico

Palifico had a solid debut last month, finishing 2nd at Curragh. He was only slightly beaten, getting headed close home. He’ll be fancied to go one better today, though, as there’s plenty more to come from the 2yo. Should enjoy the good conditions.

14:55 – Magical

Magical is on a great run of form at the moment, and is on for a hat-trick today. She looks a cut above her rivals and is well fancied today. In her last six runs she’s secured three wins and two 2nd-place finishes, marred only by a 5th at Longchamp. Her most recent outing was a win at Curragh last month.

15:30 – Bashiyr

Bashiyr struggled last time out at Curragh in June over a 1m distance, coming last of 17. He mainly struggled after he was squeezed for room at a crucial stage and never recovered, easing off to roll in last. Before, however, he had managed two back-to-back wins at Gowran Park and Galway.

16:05 – Castletownshend

Castletownshend is still winless after 18 runs, but could change that today. He’ll likely benefit from his experience and do well today, though it’s a competitive field and he’ll face competition from Lincoln and Ducky Mallon. Castletownshend will likely benefit from the good conditions, having struggled with the soft going at Curragh last September.

16:40 – Zarzyni

Zarzyni was a winner at Gowran Park last summer, but hasn’t really built on that since. He’s scored three 3rd place finishes since, and had a 4th place finish at Curragh last August. Zarzyni has only had two runs this year, both at Naas, following up a 9th finish with a more impressive 3rd. He’s taking a drop in class today and has a good chance.

17:15 – Na Blianta Beo

Na Blianta Beo was unplaced in her only run last year, finishing 6th at Curragh. Since then, however, she’s improved massively. Since the start of June she’s had three runs, one at Navan and two at Naas, finishing 3rd, 4th and 2nd respectively. She’ll be fancied to go one better today, and is rated a 92.

17:45 – Master Matt

Master Matt, 4yo, will be well fancied today after a strong run at Curragh earlier in the month. After struggling at the stalls and breaking away slowly in his first Curragh run of the year, he stumbled to 18th of 18, but then improved for a nice 4th place finish. If he can break on terms, he’ll be hard to beat.
