Paddy Power was joined by Ruby Walsh and Paddy Desmond on this week’s From The Horse’s Mouth podcast to take a deep dive into the best of the weekend’s racing in the UK and Ireland.
Trainer Hughie Morrison also joined the lads to express his concerns for the present state and the future of the sport. You can hear that interview, as well as tonnes of previews and tips, in the podcast below. But what’s Paddy backing this weekend?
I’m going for Saint Lawrence because that Master Of The Seas is the best two-year-old we’ve seen, according to Timeform. This horse was four lengths behind Master Of The Seas and before that won by four lengths.
He’s a horse that has plenty of potential, if you go on the Master Of the Seas form, he might be good enough. I also have Chinditeach way. Was quite impressive first time running. He’s an each-way shout but St Lawrence is the one I’m pinning my colours to.
I was going to go for Gin Palace because I’m fond of a gin and tonic myself and also, he’s on a hat-trick. I actually quite like Eve Johnson Houghton as a trainer, I think she’s quite good at picking up the big races. So, I think Gin Palace is a good each way bet.
I’m thinking Magical and Enable for the real mug short-price double, that could be paying about 6/4 on the double or something like that. That’ll be alright for me. Magical.
I was fancying Miss O’Connor. Up to now it never crossed my mind that she might not run because of the ground but so far she’s unbeaten. If Miss O’Connor turns up, I think that could be the one.

13:50 at Ascot on Saturday – Saint Lawrence, Chindit (E/W)
I’m going for Saint Lawrence because that Master Of The Seas is the best two-year-old we’ve seen, according to Timeform. This horse was four lengths behind Master Of The Seas and before that won by four lengths.
He’s a horse that has plenty of potential, if you go on the Master Of the Seas form, he might be good enough. I also have Chindit each way. Was quite impressive first time running. He’s an each-way shout but St Lawrence is the one I’m pinning my colours to.
14:25 at Ascot on Saturday – Gin Palace (e/w)
I was going to go for Gin Palace because I’m fond of a gin and tonic myself and also, he’s on a hat-trick. I actually quite like Eve Johnson Houghton as a trainer, I think she’s quite good at picking up the big races. So, I think Gin Palace is a good each way bet.
14:40 at York on Saturday – Elarqam
I think Elarqam here. He’s in strong form but also Paddy Desmond told me to back this one during the week so that’s the main reason!
14:55 at the Curragh on Sunday – Magical
I’m thinking Magical and Enable for the real mug short-price double, that could be paying about 6/4 on the double or something like that. That’ll be alright for me. Magical.
15:05 at Ascot on Sunday – Miss O’Connor
I was fancying Miss O’Connor. Up to now it never crossed my mind that she might not run because of the ground but so far she’s unbeaten. If Miss O’Connor turns up, I think that could be the one.
Paddy’s From The Horse’s Mouth NAP
I’ll go for the double, Enable, who runs in the 15:35 at Ascot on Saturday, and Magical.
