It’s been another bad weekend for our bean counters and number crunchers as yet again a crafty customer has made a mug of them.
The punter, based in Cork, Ireland, landed €8,153 on Sunday from just an €11 stake after placing a cheeky Yankee on the day’s racing action on both sides of the Irish Sea.
Our winner stunningly called four winners from the meetings at York, Newbury and the Curragh to grab the loot, and did it all in the space of less than five hours. Not bad for a lazy Sunday, eh?
The victor’s dream day started off at York when the first selection on the betslip ROBERTO ESCOBARR (4/1) was first past the post in the 12:45 for trainer William Haggas. Ryan Moore steered the colt clear in the final 110 yards to see off a game Matthew Flinders by four lengths to kick everything off.
Next on the chopping block was the 14:30 at the same venue, and it was the Phillip Makin-trained LAHORE that did the business to make it two-from-two at a price of 12/1. The gelding was challenged all the way by a brave Acclaim The Nation, but grabbed the lead in the final furlong and kept on well to score victory.
A quick turn around was required as the winning punt hopped across to Ireland for the 14:35 at the Curragh. Thankfully, Paddy Twomey’s SONAIYLA came home in first for our customer at a price of 11/2, but it was far from easy.
William James Lee was made to scrap all the way in the saddle by the fast-finishing Music To My Ears, however the fab filly he was ridding managed to hold on to leave one to go for our winner.
Lastly, a bit of an anxious wait followed as the Yankee’s final leg didn’t take place until the 17:00 at Newbury, and all our punter’s hopes rested on the Richard Hughes colt Karibana (11/1) to net the cash.
The heart must have been in the mouth though as Inhalation was there right until the final strides of the race. However, KARIBANA just got there in the nick of time to send our victor into delirium by closing the show on the bumper bet.
After placing an €11 stake on 740/1 Yankee, winnings of €8,153 was secured and I need a lie down after seeing that come in! Well done and enjoy knowing that you’ve given us a right spanking!
