It’s Irish Oaks day at the Curragh and Paddy’s stepped up to the plate to deliver some top tips for Saturday’s racing. Speaking on the latest episode of our From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, he picked a winner for the Oaks and a NAP of the day to help you get your weekend off to a winner.
You can listen to Paddy, Frank Hickey and Ruby Walsh’s tips on the pod below, as well as a hilarious interview with Barry Geraghty about the good ol’ days and insight from top trainer Ken Condon.
Paddy’s sponsoring two of these races, so surely he knows what he’s talking about, right? Right? Let’s find out.
I know Ger Lyons’ horses tend to come on for a run, but the one I’m going for is Gulliver for David O’Meara. He was 4th in the Wokingham, only beaten a length and a half.
I just think that is quite strong form coming here and the English sprinters are better than the Irish sprinters in these races.
I think Merchants Quay will be really hard to beat but I’m going to go for Lucky Vega. I just thought that the comments that he was very green first time out, but still managed to win, were encouraging.
He’ll probably have learnt plenty from last time so hopefully he’ll be a much better horse this time round.
I like Cayenne Pepper.I can’t say it’s a bad Oaks, but it’s tricky for them sitting where they are in the calendar, especially with the other two Oaks (French and the English) already done.
But Cayenne Pepper for me, just because of that second to Magical. I know they were hammered by Magical, but Magical is Magical so hopefully she’ll step up.

17:45 Lancaster House (NAP)
Speak In Colours’ form looks strong (now a non runner), he’s won twice recently. However, I think Lancaster House looks the one to beat.
18:15 Gulliver
