Horse Racing tips: Nine to shine at Beverley on Friday

The Racing Post take you through today's card.

Beverley-racecourse

12pm – Bamby Splishsplash

Having run with credit in Listed company on her debut, Olivia Brend warrants respect but she was ultimately beaten over 10l so it may be prudent not to get too carried away. Navajo Spring is surely better than she showed last time and Batindi promises to be suited by this drop to the minimum trip, but there are a couple of interesting newcomers in the shape of BAMBY SPLISHSPLASH and Beechwood Donna who are both well drawn. The first-named has an eyecatching pedigree and gets the nod.

12.35pm – The Grey Bay

As always in 5f handicaps at Beverley, the draw is a huge factor and those most likely to make the most of favourable stalls are Newgate Angel, Chillon Castle, Tiltilys Rock and THE GREY BAY. Julie Camacho’s string continues to perform well so perhaps her representative may be the answer on this drop back to 5f. Pivotal Art has possibilities in first-time cheekpieces.

1.10pm – Single

The well-bred Frankenstella is very much the unexposed one here and could come good with blinkers added for her handicap debut, but the vote goes to SINGLE who has bumped into improvers when runner-up on her last two starts and is taken to go one better in the hope that her own first-time headgear sees her pull out a bit more. Boulevard Beauty leaves the impression she’ll be suited by 2m and also makes the shortlist.

1.40pm – Stonific

Despite the small field, this looks very tricky, including because STONIFIC and Lady Scatterley try this trip for the first time on the Flat. Stonific has not been beyond 1m4f in this sphere but his sire, a wide-margin 2m hurdles win on heavy going and a strong finish over 1m4f last time all suggest he is worth the attempt. Dance To Paris and Anyonecanhaveitall should not be far away.

2.10pm – Red Treble

This looks competitive with several of the field lurking on attractive marks. Dawn Breaking is a good starting point after his win at Thirsk on his reappearance, with How Bizarre and Kentuckyconnection also coming here on the back of a good run. That doesn’t apply to RED TREBLE, who was well held at Thirsk 18 days ago, but her Newcastle reappearance was much better than the distance beaten suggests and she looks sure to appreciate the step back up in trip and return to faster ground.

2.40pm – Breanski (NAP)

A competitive handicap in which the likes of Starlight Romance, Queen’s Sargent and Magical Effect should get involved. However, Jedd O’Keeffe saddles two likely sorts in Saisons D’Or and BREANSKI (nap) and ready preference is for the last-named after his excellent effort at Newmarket last time. Gentle Look would be a threat if bouncing back to form.

3.10pm – Mogsy

Holes can be picked in a few of these but Blonde Warrior and MOGSY arrive on the back of fair recent efforts and the vote goes to Jedd O’Keeffe’s representative who probably found 6f too sharp when third last time and may be able to return to winning ways back over 7f. Rux Ruxx and Tangled look the best of the rest.

3.40pm – Highwaygrey

Plenty have possibilities but the one that appeals most is HIGHWAYGREY, who justified support in good style from off the pace at Pontefract on his seasonal return and a 4lb rise for that win looks fair. Zihaam and Ideal Candy pulled clear when filling the first two places in a C&D handicap 24 days ago and they are feared most, though Motahassen is respected after his creditable third in his hat-trick bid at Haydock. Others with each-way claims are Railport Dolly, Canasta and Fox Kasper.

4.10pm – Union Spirit

Most of these have plenty to prove but UNION SPIRIT came good with his front-running win in cheekpieces last month and he’s a major player again off only 3lb higher on this switch back to turf. Second choice is Roger Varian’s handicap newcomer Swan River, who is bred to be much better than her opening mark and could really click into gear on this step up in trip. Third on the list is Cold Light Of Day, who ended her 2yo campaign with a good third in a Redcar nursery and is open to more progress at middle distances this season.
