Unless one of the newcomers proves above-average this looks the ideal opportunity for MISS MILBY to get off the mark having been beaten a neck in her first two starts. She still appeared to be in need of the experience last time. Find A Penny looks the best of the others with experience, while Gangster Girl is perhaps the most interesting of those making their debuts with the stable having had a nice 2yo go in first time at Newcastle on Saturday.
Much will depend on whether the bang-in-form Alba Del Sole can keep up the good work on this fourth start within a fortnight from a 7lb higher mark. She will be a major player once again if she can, but AGHAST showed plenty more on her second start for Mick Appleby last time and may well take another step up off what looks a favourable mark. Point Of Woods has won after a similar break to the one he returns from today and could prove an interesting longshot.
There are some interesting newcomers in here with Esticky End and Lady Danger perhaps the picks, but a few of these have already demonstrated ability on the track. Ataser and Ready Freddie Go have shown enough ability to go close, but SHOWTIME ELLE is the choice with her second to Bowman at Redcar last month being handsomely advertised by the winner following up in convincing style at Lingfield on Sunday.
Not many of these look solid, although Harry’s Ridge comes into this off the back of a good effort at Haydock, the form of which has been boosted since. However, ROUND THE ISLAND (nap) has plenty going for him as not only is he a previous C&D winner, he is 3lb lower than when finishing runner-up at Pontefract seven days ago and drops into a 0-55 for the first time. Kodimoor is lower in the weights than for the final leg of his hat-trick last summer so is another to consider.
Many of these have something to prove. Susie Javea and Alpine Mistral have shown enough lately to suggest they are capable of winning a race like this, but HERBERT POCKET did well to finish as close as he did at Thirsk eight days ago after blowing the start and if able to break on terms this time, he must have a good chance.
Volcano Bay has been showing up well at this trip and 1m4f and of the two distances this one looks sure to suit better. However, her finishing is still a shade suspect and it might be worth giving BUZZ LIGHTYERE another chance as he shaped nicely in better company over this trip two starts ago and may have been confused by the flag start at Leicester since when slowly away and coming home in his own time. Maykir has at least won a race this year but his last two efforts have been modest.
A chance is taken on HAYUPLASS, who has finished a little closer in each of her four runs and could find further improvement at this trip. Seven For A Pound is next best.
Sudona looks well in under her penalty and she’s feared, despite having to give a chunk of weight to some promising 3yos. Party Planner looks a potential improver now upped in trip, while Escalade still has more to come over middle distances, but the vote goes to the well-bred CHORAL WORK. She showed improved form when making all over 1m4f last month and moves into handicaps on a feasible mark.
Hard to warm to many of these but with several unexposed 3yos in the field the betting should be revealing. Marie’s Gem ought to give another good account but LORD WARBURTON wasn’t beaten far on his handicap debut and can progress again over this new trip.
