Kimberley improved from her debut and shaped encouragingly when fourth at Kempton last time, doing well under the circumstances to be beaten only two and a half lengths. Held up in the early stages, she still had plenty to do entering the straight and could never get on terms with the other principals, all of whom were ridden much closer to the pace. The way she finished her race was eye-catching, strongly suggesting that the extra furlongs here will be in her favour, and she is fancied to improve past First Winter to open her account at the third attempt.
16:45: Soramond – NB
Soramond proved better than ever when making a successful handicap debut at Leicester last month, going with enthusiasm and digging deep where it mattered to land the spoils by a short head. That form puts her right in the mix here on Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings, even with a 3 lb higher mark taken into account, and her scope for further improvement (still lightly raced) suggests she is likely to take some stopping in her follow-up bid under Andrea Atzeni, who can boast an impressive 22% strike rate at Windsor in recent seasons.
13:35: Belated Breath – E/W
Belated Breath was out of her depth in listed company last time, but she will be much more in her comfort zone here and looks to hold sound claims if bouncing back with that first outing for eight months under her belt.
The booking of Oisin Murphy is certainly a plus – the champion jockey has been in the saddle for all six wins recorded by Belated Breath to date – whilst there is also a sound case to be made for her on the form book, now down to the same mark as when achieving her last success at Salisbury in September.
