Horse Racing tips: Paul Jacobs’ 5 to follow from Sunday’s UK and Irish meetings

Our top tipster has a fab fivesome for you.

Paul Jacobs Generic

Lingfield 12:00 – Mercers

The opening class six handicap sprint is a ‘whose turn is it to win event’, but there are reasons to believe that MERCERS could bounce back here under apprentice George Rooke.

The combination caused a 22/1 shock when scoring at Kempton Park in October and are now 5lbs lower, the six-year-old has a real chance of mowing down the opposition close home from a nice stall sit.

Fellow course and distance winners, Roundabout Magic (drawn in 9) and the well-weighted George Thomas, are both respected in a wide open basement grade contest.

Hamilton 13:20 – Bergerac

Kevin Ryan has a nice set of juveniles at his disposal this year and his BERGERAC looks likely to add to his current winning haul in this maiden.

Looking big and burly in the paddock for his debut at the track last month, he nonetheless ran a race full of promise when third to Kraken Power.

The son of Kodi Bear raced with the choke out that day, but only gave best at the distance and with that run and experience under his belt, I fancy he will take care of the Richard Fahey-trained Twilight Prince here.

Bangor-on-Dee 15:45 – Bhutan

The North Wales’ track has missed the worst of the wet weather in the past week and that will be music to the ears of Jonjo O’Neill, who sends out BHUTAN in the Class 3 handicap hurdle over two-and-a-half miles.

Successful off 117 and placed off 122 last season, a fast run race over this trip could well turn out to be his optimum set-up and the seven-year-old should get a good tow into this contest with several prominent entries in the field.

Moabit has yet to click over hurdles but looks dangerous off his current mark for the Nicholls/Cobden team, while Elysees hails from the massively in form Alan King yard.

Cork 17:15 – Jassaar

The big one mile, the Premier Handicap offers several entries well below their last winning mark with arguably the Denis Hogan-trained Allegio the best handicapped horse in this contest.

However, he has shown few signs of taking advantage of his deteriorating rating of 88 and JASSAAR looks the one to be on.

The son of Dansili ran in some valuable handicaps in back end of last season, culminating in a fair 10th of 17 behind Current Option at Leopardstown following on from a career best success in the Irish Cambridgeshire at the Curragh. Only 7lbs higher here, I suspect connections will be looking for some black type from him later on this season.

Dundalk 18:00 – Wild Shot

Young Willie Byrne is a jockey to keep an eye over the next few months and although he is waiting for his first win since the end of the horse racing lockdown. I suspect it may come courtesy of the top-weight WILD SHOT in the finale.

A course and distance winner, the six-year-old is sometimes his own worst enemy by pulling too hard through a race, but if he manages to settle there seems no reason to believe that he cannot give the weight away to the likes of the consistent, but one-paced Pempie and unexposed four-year-old Marmolata
