Highest Ground has made an excellent start to his career, looking something out of the ordinary when making a winning debut at Leicester on his sole start last season, doing incredibly well to win in the manner that he did given he lost lots of ground after breaking slowly from the stalls.
Highest Ground confirmed that impression and more on his recent return at Haydock, looking a colt right out of the top drawer, conceding race fitness and experience to one-time Derby hope Waldkonig. Highest Ground was more professional than on his debut and he will prove really hard to beat here with further progress on the cards.
La Trinidad caught the eye in his qualifying runs and has made rapid progress in handicaps this season, surprisingly weak in the market given the promise he’d shown as a juvenile when getting off the mark in ready fashion at Beverley last month.
He was 3 lb well in turned out under a penalty at Doncaster nine days later and looked potentially smart as he routed his rivals by five lengths, getting the run of the race but showing an impressive turn of foot to quickly put the race to bed.
La Trinidad is up 12 lb in the weights and pitched into a more competitive handicap also, but he looks a handicapper to keep on the right side at present and is expected to complete a hat-trick.
This looks a competitive handicap and Desert Caravan is sure to be popular, but at the odds, it could be worth taking a chance on Rhythmic Intent, who shaped very well from an unpromising position when finishing second over a mile at Newbury last time.
That form has been boosted by the winner going in again since, and Rhythmic Intent will be well suited by the return to a mile and a quarter. He still looks feasibly handicapped and a big run is expected with Oisin Murphy getting on board for the first time.
