House Edge appealed as very much one to follow in middle-distance handicaps in 2018 after his impressive maiden victory at Musselburgh in October 2017, but he was not seen on the track again until his reappearance at this venue 19 days ago, and he ran well after his lengthy absence, finding only a subsequent winner too good whilst still pulling well clear of the remainder.
He needs to prove he can go the right way from that now stepped significantly up in trip, but he still boasts a lightly-raced profile and is a confident selection to belatedly record his second career victory.
17:10 Tommy Rock (next best)
Tommy Rock shaped well on a couple of occasions last season despite still looking a little rough around the edged, and, after eight months off, showed much improved form to get off the mark on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton 10 days ago, finding plenty to lead well inside the final furlong, coming out on top in good style.
He still looked a little green once hitting the front, despite winning with a bit in hand, and with more improvement anticipated, he is taken to continue the rich vein of form that Clive Cox’s yard is currently experiencing.
19:45 Gossiping (each-way)
Gossiping landed a gamble to capitalise on a tumbling mark after three months off at this course in early June, producing the goods when the money was down, and not for the first time in his career.
He wasn’t in the same form when only seventh in a handicap back here a week later, but he was far from ideally placed on that occasion, and he could be worth chancing to bounce back. He looks well priced at the minute but any market movement in his favour would only enhance his appeal in this contest.
