Horse racing tips: Timeform’s 3 to watch on Monday in Limerick

A nap, next-best and each-way.

NAP: It’s All A Joke – 14:10 Limerick

It’s All A Joke has fallen to an attractive mark and shaped better than the distance beaten suggests when sixth at Navan on his reappearance earlier this month, travelling fluently when denied a clear run over a furlong out, shaken up approaching the final furlong but not unduly punished after failing to quicken.

He failed to build on the promise of that effort when tenth in a Fairyhouse handicap 11 days ago, but he remains well treated, particularly with talented apprentice Gavin Ryan relieving him of a handy 5 lb, and with first-time cheekpieces also applied, this could represent a good opportunity for him to get back to winning ways.

Next Best: Giorgio Vasari – 13:40 Limerick

From a speedy family, by Air Force Blue and a half-brother to a couple of winners by Scat Daddy, Giorgio Vasari was clued up on his debut at Fairyhouse 14 days ago and was just unlucky to bump into one, pulling well clear of the remainder of the field.

A repeat of that form would be good enough to win most maidens, and with experience now under his belt, he will likely take plenty of beating as he bids to open his account at the second attempt.

Each-way: Marmolata – 16:45 Limerick

Marmolata was hardly given a hard time on her debut at Naas this time last year, and duly continued her progression on her two subsequent outings, running to a similar level at Cork 10 weeks on, before backing up that effort with a narrow third at Dundalk in October, making good progress under two furlongs out.

She has since joined Emmet Mullins’s stable and is an interesting contender on her handicap debut. She is stepped markedly up in trip here and appeals as the type to improve past her opening mark, so could be one to side with at the forecast prices.
