Lord North wins at Royal Ascot

Lord North pulled off something of a shock, beating big favourite Japan in today’s feature race, the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, with an impressive surge from last to first in the dying embers of the Group 1 over 1m2f.

Here’s all the other results from Day Two.

LIVE RESULTS: The latest from Thursday at Royal Ascot

TIPS: Our ultimate ‘cheat sheet’ for Thursday’s racing

13.15 The Silver Royal Hunt Cup 1m (1.15pm) – Sir Busker

Sir Busker turned on the afterburners to take this one late on, powering away from Salayel who must have thought he had it in the bag. Favourite ahead of the start Ouzo was nowhere to be seen but Alternative Fact rounded off the top three, ahead of Almufti, Red Bond and Presidential.

13.50 The Hampton Court Stakes 1m2f (1.50pm) – Russian Emperor

Ryan Moore claimed his 60th Royal Ascot winner on Russian Emperor who dug deep to surge late on to pip pre-race favourite First Receiver and Berlin Tango into second and third respectively. The Queen’s horse hit the front towards the end but couldn’t hold off the 10/3 winner’s impressive charge.

14.25 The King George V Stakes 1m4f (2.25pm) – Hukum

Hukum stayed brilliantly to fend off the challenge of Kipps who couldn’t quite overhaul Jim Crowley’s ride. Subjectivist put in a strong performance to claim third, starting from 22/1, with 28s shot Group One taking fourth in front of Arthurian Fable who rounded off our places in fifth.

15.00 The Prince of Wales’s Stakes 1m2f (3pm) – Lord North

Lord North exploded from the back of the pack to streak clear in the big race of the day, with hot favourite Japan missing out in fourth. Addeybb finished a distant second and Barney Roy completed the top three. Japan disappointed but Lord North showed an incredible turn of pace to get the job done in some style.

15.35 The Royal Hunt Cup 1m (3.35pm) – Dark Vision

Dark Vision showed his class beating Montatham into second place quite comfortably. Pogo rounded off the top three and was followed by Vale of Kent, Baltic Baron, Bell Rock and Afaak in that order. Paddy Power paid 7 places instead of 4 in this race so if your horse was named here you’re quids in.

16.10 The Windsor Castle Stakes 5f (4.10pm) – Tactical

Tactical lived up to his favourite billing win for The Queen at Royal Ascot, scoring her first victory since 2016. Yazaman carved his way through the field late on to notch an impressive second and Muker took third at 40s. We’re paying four places on this race and it was a sterling effort from Get It who managed to finish strongly despite a bad draw.

16.40 The Copper Horse Stakes 1m6f (4.40pm) – Fujaira Prince

Fujaira Prince obliterated the field to win this as a canter thanks to a brilliant start and trying gallop. The other contenders were well grouped with Selino being the best of the rest. Almania picked up third ahead of Themaxwecan in fourth and the fifth-placed Floating Artist. Paddy paid out 5 places on this race instead of the usual 4.
