It was a case of better late than never for one lucky racing punter on Saturday who made it a night to remember when reeling off the last three winners at Gulfstream Park, to land a 580/1 treble.
The first nine contests in the 12-race marathon had largely passed without incident, but just as the traders were preparing to log off for the night a quick-fire £4 each-way treble and some inspired pre-race price taking, was about to set the alarm bells ringing on the trading floor.
First up was Causalistic (SP 3/1 but backed at 9/2) in the one-mile claimer who just about got the ball rolling at 22.25 with a neck success over the favourite Blood Moon in the run to the line.
The 5f sprint at 10.57 was switched from the turf track to the dirt, but the change of surface made no difference to our pal or the selection, as the four-year-old filly Miss Auramet (9/5f but backed at 4/1) skipped away from the field to deliver.
And the best was saved until last when Katniss Kan (78/10 but backed at a whopping 40/1 pre-race) ran out the most convincing winner in the each-way treble at 23.29, with a three-and-a-half-length victory over Honest Gal to see our pal £4,647 richer off an £8 stake.
Congratulations friend, your place in Paddy Power’s Punting Hall of Fame awaits.
