Horse racing tips: 8 to make you feel great about Tampa Bay on Wednesday

We've lined up a tip for each race at the Florida track.

Tampa Bay Downs

17:30 – AUNT IRENE

A poor maiden claiming contest to start the Wednesday card at Tampa Bay with a host of exposed runners. Eartha drops back in trip following her third-place finish here last month, while Strand De Oro is also in the mix after two recent third place efforts. Aunt Irene looks the obvious selection after a good second in a similar contest last month and the booking of Samy Camacho stands out.

18:00 – HUBBA BUBBA

Another solid booking for jockey Samy Camacho in the one-mile maiden claimer with Hubba Bubba our selection for trainer Johnny Collins. The four-year-old drops slightly back in trip by 0.5 furlongs tonight following a battling second placed finish (beaten a head) last month. There’s little doubt Camacho will have him handy with Mjolnir, Old Fort and Purrs Again the main dangers.

18:30 – POZNAN (NAP)

6.5 furlongs the trip for the third race on the Tampa Bay card on Wednesday (another maiden claiming contest) with twelve set to race. Sharon Boland has been knocking on the door here recently and Poznan should have enough speed to see off Mozano, Three Olivez and others here. Expect a gate to wire ride from Angel Suarez with the drop back in trip today a positive advantage.

19:00 – MARMALADE

An extremely open affair in the one-mile claimer (race four) with Marmalade, Luna, Sapphire Jubilee and Scarlet Bow just a number in with chances. Scarlet Bow has been in excellent form with Daniel Centeno on dirt and returns looking for a fourth consecutive win, but our hopes centre on the consistent Marmalade. Trainer Darien Rodriguez has his horses in excellent form and this mare should be bang in contention again following two good second places finishes already this year.

19:30 – PERP

Despite twelve runners for this 6-furlong claimer (back on dirt) the more likely contenders are Game Day Drama, Never Have I Ever and our selection, Perp. The Nick Caruso trained runner showed an improved run when finishing second here 18-days ago and it’s encouraging that jockey Wilmer Garcia remains in the saddle with the step back-up in trip not a major concern.

20:00 – DAKOTA BEACH

Trainer Rory Miller has been knocking on the door with a handful of runners here at Tampa this year and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his Dakota Beach show more improvement to take this one-mile maiden claimer. Her second-place effort here 18-days ago puts here right in connection and expect jockey Harry Hernandez (on board last two-starts) to finally strike gold over Marchenwald and Goneasagirlcanget.

20:30 – SENSE OF JUSTICE

A 6-furlong maiden special weight on dirt for our second-last race of the night with two interesting Godolphin runners. Eoin Harty runs the once race Positive Impact, while Sense of Justice also takes his chance for Michael Stidham. The son of Street Sense finished third on debut last July at Parx and with Stidham’s horses running out of their skin here recently, it’s hard to look past his runner here.

21:00 – BITCOIN PASSION (NEXT-BEST)

We leave the best race to last at Tampa Bay on Wednesday with the 8.5-furlong allowance optional claimer looking a real cracker. Our Country returns to the track following a decent opening season last year (finishing 9th in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf). However, it might be worth siding with Bitcoin Passion who showed a nice winning debut here in January and represents trainer Christophe Clement’s only runner on the card.
