Horse Racing tips: 3 Wednesday wagers at Gulfstream Park

We're off to sunny Florida.

Gulfstream-Park-2

18:00 – CORY GAL @ 13/8

A field of six starters for the third race of the night at Gulfstream on Wednesday with Cory Gal the most experienced of these with 17 starts to date. The filly returns after a break for new trainer Gustavo Delgado having previously been claimed from Larry Bates’ stable following an improved second-place finish last month at this venue.

It’s encouraging that jockey Edgar Prado remains in the saddle and I’d expect him to set the fractions to perfection and dominate from the front. No Se Vende was 3¼ lengths behind our selection last month, while other rivals might struggle to pin-down our pick at the business end of this claimer at Gulfstream.

19:34 – FLAT AWESOME JENNY @ 13/2

It could be worth taking a chance with the improving Flat Awesome Jenny for trainer Kelly Breen and jockey Paco Lopez in the sixth race on the card. The five-year-old needs to take another step forward on her best form with leading rivals to secure victory, but with three wins from four starts at Gulfstream, she certainly knows where the winning line is.

Lopez is unbeaten on the mare – two wins from two this year (January and February) – and has given her excellent winning rides from sitting off the pace. A carbon-copy ride from Paco, sitting in mid-division and finishing late could see us in the money as leading contenders Day by Day, Liza Star and outsider Kiffle should provide a very strong-pace.

21:07 – VEGAS KITTEN

Extra Extra, Vegas Kitten and Indian Counselor all managed wins when last seen on track and this contest certainly looks open and competitive. Lemonist has the best form having previously raced for Todd Pletcher and now runs first time for new trainer Saffie Jospeh. The six-year-old hasn’t won in over a year and was never really looking to get the head in front here last month.

I’m happy to look elsewhere and will take a punt on Vegas Kitten who was claimed back by Mike Maker for a new owner after spending the best part of 2019 in his barn. The five-year-old comes back to Gulfstream after a wire to wire success for Mark Casse, 20-days ago and Paco Lopez is now booked.

There’s very little pace in this with Extra Extra another who should be forward early. However, I’d expect Lopez to set a slow pace with enough stamina in her pedigree to see out the step up in trip.
