Horse Racing tips: Frank Hickey’s Tasty Trixie for Dundalk on Friday

Frank the Tank doesn't need to be asked twice for a Friday fancy.

1.30pm – Reverberation @ 11/2

Reverberation has only won once in twenty-eight starts, with his only win coming over this course and distance nearly eighteen months ago off a mark of 61 and while he has struggled to hit those heights since, his run here in February off a mark of 52 suggests he might be able to double his tally here. On that day he was third off a mark of 52 where he travelled really nicely and wasn’t beaten far. The handicapper has dropped him another 3 pounds to a career-low mark of 49 and it will be very disappointing if he can’t play a part in this race off that sort of mark.

Paddy is paying 4 places for those looking for an each-way play.

Dundalk

3.00pm – Haparanda @ 5/1

A maiden with a lot of deadwood, Haparandar strikes as one that should improve plenty for her debut at the Galway festival. Sixth of ten that day before being disqualified, she is bred to appreciate the step up to ten furlongs here. Her half brother Hazapour was a Group 3 winner over ten furlongs too. Throw in that Weld has won this race twice in the last three years and had a short-priced favourite turned over and Haparanda makes each-way appeal against the top of the market here.

4.00pm – Guild @ 12/1

Guild looks worth taking a chance on at the prices in this mile and a half handicap. Useful for Roger Charlton in 2018, he didn’t show much in his first two starts for Luke Comer but has appeared to really appreciate the switch to the all-weather in January when second to Joseph O’Brien’s progressive Kings Vow over two miles, where Joseph had Irradiate in the same race too (and opened as favourite).

He followed that up with a second over a mile and a half here and the winner of that was just touched off on his next start. Last time over two miles here he was ridden by a very inexperienced jockey who went off far too hard in front and he had nothing left at the business end. Gavin Ryan takes the ride here and Guild remains on the same mark as those two-second places, so he looks worth chancing each way with Paddy paying four places here.
