Horse Racing Tips: Racing Post’s 7 best bets at Down Royal today including a 7/2 nap

We'll be going Golazo if a few of these come in.

Down Royal – 13.50 – Now Where Or When @ 13/8

Not a race of particular strength in depth. Bal De Rio was a very unlucky loser at Clonmel but might find one too good again here in the shape of NOW WHERE OR WHEN who should improve a good deal from his eye-catching third to Francin at Navan last month. Gowran runner-up Deealli is unlikely to be far away.

Down Royal – 14.25 – Plentiful @ 7/2

Not many of these count. Stoughan Cross has been found a decent opportunity after winning at Punchestown last month, and Kristian Goingwel could be an improver. Preference is for PLENTIFUL (nap) after a good run at Clonmel last time, and unlike most of these, is going the right way.

Down Royal – 15.00 – Metal Man 15/2

No less than four of these come in here after winning last time, and preference is for METAL MAN who got the run of the race at Navan but showed a good attitude. Top-weight Groody Rover and recent Carlisle winner Lily’s Gem couild be best of the rest.

Down Royal – 15.35 – Golazo 6/4

GOLAZO is less exposed than these. This will only be his eighth-lifetime start so there should be more to come and his wide-margin win at Tramore bodes well for the future. Crossed My Mind was runner-up in this race last year, so keep an eye on the market with him, while Thegoaheadman is another to consider.

Down Royal – 16.10 – Moonshine Bay 13/8

The Elliott pair Jury Duty and Monbeg Notorious dominate on ratings but have not set the world alight for some time. Perhaps it might pay to take a chance with the less exposed MOONSHINE BAY, who might just have needed the run at Leopardstown last time.

Down Royal – 16.45 – Samurai Cracker 6/4

This is all about SAMURAI CRACKER who somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at Thurles last month. The fact he traded at a low of 1.02 (1-50) tells you how likely victory looked and this shorter trip will make him harder to catch. He is a confident selection to take care of Winged Leader once again after they filled the first two places at Limerick over Christmas. It looks a match on paper.

Down Royal – 17.20 – Delvino 4/6

It is very hard to get away from DELVINO. She looked a mare with a huge future when runner-up in a bumper at Navan against the boys and it will be disappointing if she does not make it second time lucky for Dermot McLoughlin and Mark O’Hare. Beth Horan has solid form and could be the one to chase her home. Don’t be surprised to see an improved showing from La Mystere either.
